2023 Scholarship Recipients

Kimberly Hernandez (Longmont High School)

Dear Longmont Latinx Voices,
I’m writing to express my sincere gratitude for your generous $1,000 scholarship. I was incredibly excited when I received your call about being selected as a recipient. I was even more excited about all the new connections you helped me form at your award ceremony. Attending the award ceremony made me feel full of pride as I connected with the community that gave me this incredible opportunity.

As a first-generation student studying Biology at CSU in the fall, it’s no secret that this transition is rough for Latinx youth. Your scholarship, however, has helped alleviate stress and opened doors for new opportunities. One of my biggest doubts about being able to attend university was the cost. Thanks to this scholarship, I’m confident and excited for the new experiences to come. This scholarship allows me to focus more on my academics rather than stress about my financial situation. For that, I am infinitely grateful.

I often think back fondly on the award ceremony and the confidence it gave me knowing I have an entire community standing by my side to support me. It was an incredible experience that gave me lots of fun memories. From the music to the food and the incredible speeches of my fellow recipients, it was a night to remember.

Thank you again for everything you have provided me and my community with.
Sincerely, Kimberly Hernandez

Dear Families and foundation,
It is an honor to have been selected to receive a scholarship. I am very thankful for you all. I have been busy since school ended. I am currently at Cu
boulder doing a summer bridge program and realized how grateful I am to have become part of a community that cares so much about students and students who all look different.

Cu boulder is a predominantly white institution, and I am one of the few people of color who will be attending school here. Thanks to this scholarship
it gives me so much help and an opportunity to succeed in my education. I plan to help other people succeed the way I’ve been helped in the past few months. I know this thank you letter is not much, I don’t have the proper words to express how grateful
and honored I am,

Thank you once again!
Sincerely,
Lizette A. Duran Valderrama

Dear, Longmont Latinx Voices Scholarship,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the generosity in funding the Longmont Latinx
Voices Scholarship. I am writing to express my sincere gratitude and thank you for your benevolent
financial support towards my post secondary education. Your support has made a tremendous difference

in my life, and I am so grateful to have been provided this opportunity to continue my education. My
academic goal is to pursue a business interest, and I plan to major in business in college! My ambition is
to work for a large corporation, with the hope that the major in business will provide me with the
necessary knowledge and skills to achieve my career goals. I am truly grateful for this scholarship support
on my education and financial assistance. By being awarded this scholarship you have lightened my
financial burden and will allow me to focus on my studies and the most important aspect of my education.

I cannot express enough how much this scholarship means to me. It has opened new opportunities for my
overall education and has been crucial to my future. Once again, thank you for your generosity and for
believing in my potential.

Sincerely,
Alondra Uvina Pérez
Daisy Estrella Moncada (Skyline High School)

Dear Longmont Latinx Voices,

My name is Daisy Moncada one of the selected recipients receiving a scholarship. I’d love to show my gratitude and thank you all for making my dreams
possible. For foundations like yours I have the opportunity to pursue my dream career, that for me being Criminal Justice. As a first Generation student graduating at Skyline High School, I’m beyond honored to have the opportunity to make a change while doing something I absolutely love.

The fear of paying for school is something that I have had since I was young. I always knew I’d have to work hard to be able to fund my education through a scholarship. I am here today to appreciate your time spent on evaluating my application along with selecting me as a recipient. I’d also like to show my gratitude by thanking you all for inviting not only myself but letting me have guests in your annual dinner dance. I understand the importance of this award, especially as I was told I’d be receiving this award in honor of Jeff Beaver Cordova, a big
historic event in Longmont and one who made a change.

A special thank you to Valorie Lopez,
your words thought our zoom meeting made more of an impact than you could ever imagine,
seeing how you expressed my story and were moved made me realize exactly my purpose in life
through my future career. This is just the beginning and I can’t wait to make a difference in the
lives of others in our community. Together we will continue to fight for justice in honor of Jeff
Beaver Cordova and others in our Latino community.

Thank you, Daisy Estrella Moncada
